Attic Insulation Comes In Many Forms and Applications to Protect Your Home from Heat Loss

Attic Insulation is one of the best ways to take control of energy costs and utility bills. The energy required to maintain the temperature of your home is often the largest portion of your monthly utility bills. When installed properly, insulation can significantly curb these costs by sealing the area to achieve the appropriate temperature.

No matter the style of your roof, from a flat roof to a cathedral roof, Therma-Comfort reflective insulation is very effective in insulating your attic. There are many different materials that work for your attic and different methods of installation for each material. Always consult a professional to advise you on how to insulate your attic.

Before deciding on the best attic insulation for your house or office, measure the area you plan on insulating. Most attics require an R-value of R-30, R-38 or R-49, depending on your climate and location. When you know the square footage of your attic you can determine how much insulation you'll need by simple looking on the chart located on the bag of insulation.

Average options for attic insulation are fiberglass batts or blown in attic insulation. Keep in mind that blown-in attic insulation is better than batts because it seals the attic better in small spaces and corners.

-Fiberglass or mineral wool batts and rolls. Batts and rolls are in 15" to 23" widths to fit in between standard joist spaces. Fiberglass and mineral wool are water resistant. Some batts are wrapped in a plastic casing, but this plastic has holes so it is not a vapor barrier.

-Medium or high density fiberglass batts. These batts can provide a greater R-value, or insulating power, than standard rolls or batts. Depending on the shape or height of your roof, as in a cathedral roof, this could be a wise choice.

-Fiberglass, mineral wool, cellulose or vermiculite loose fill. Loose fill comes in bags so it is poured straight from the bag blown with a machine, often it is called Blown-In Loose Fill. It is convenient for attics with irregular spacing between the joists or other odd spaces in the attic that make it difficult to use rolls or batts.

Therma-Comfort is an amazing alternative to ordinary fiberglass, mineral wool, and loose fill to insulate an attic. We use a uniquely designed system of materials made of layers of insulating, heat sealed air bubbles encased by a 99% pure aluminum foil outer surface. These surfaces are highly reflective and therefore provide optimal thermal performance.

-97% radiant heat reflection.

-It acts as a strong vapor barrier.

-It eliminates the solar-generated heat radiated down by the roof.

-The R-value is very high. It maximizes the thermal resistance (R-value) without adding significant thickness to the insulation system. Typical R-value for fiberglass is 3.14 per inch, and blown-in loose fill is 3.70, whereas Therma-Comfort Foil Double Bubble Foil (FDBF) has an R-value of up to 14.6, depending on the direction of the heat flow.

-It helps maintain the temperature and humidity distribution of the house at the time of construction.

-If you are seeking to renovate an already existing home, it boosts the thermal performance of the existing insulation.

Therma-Comfort Foil Double Bubble Foil (FDBF) is a double layer of heat sealed bubbles surrounded by aluminum foil. This particular Therma-Comfort foil is recommended for all attic needs as an optimal radiant and vapor barrier in your attic, where it is most important. The double layer of bubbles provides optimal R-value as well as a vapor barrier to eliminate condensation.

If you are installing your own attic insulation, there are many safety factors that we hope you will keep in mind. Follow all instructions closely, watch out for nails, use extreme caution when working around electrical wiring, and make sure the attic insulation meets the federal or ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) specifications.

No matter if you install the insulation yourself or if you hire a contractor, you can find the insulation you need here on our Therma-Comfort site. We have worked hard to design and create one of the most efficient and effective methods of reflective insulation on the market. We stand behind our research and products. We realize that the issue of attic insulation is important especially in these days when utility and energy bills are eating up our ever precious incomes.
